Algoma District School Board, in partnership with Sault College, Tenaris Algoma Tubes, The Professional Engineers of Ontario and Staples wish to announce a new competition robotics league coming to the Sault this year.
The VEX IQ competition program is a new league to the Algoma District, and offers an exciting platform for elementary school students to try their Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics skills in a cooperative and competitive program.
Parents of students from grades 3 to 8 are encouraged to form a team of 2 to 10 students and register for this exciting league, which competes in over 20 countries world wide. Community groups, youth groups, neighbourhood groups or schools can form teams and compete in our inaugural event.
Staples will host a demonstration of this new platform on Saturday, October 24th, where interested students, teachers or parents may see the robots in action and can find out more information about this exciting league.
Information on league registration, hardware costs and the event schedule can also be obtained by contacting league coordinator and local regional event director Jonathan Budau at budauj@adsb.on.ca or at 705-945-7177.
The local Regional Qualifying event will take place at Sault College on January 9th, 2016. Top teams from this event earn an invitation to the Provincial VEX IQ championships in February, and can then earn a berth at the World VEX Robotics Championships in April.
