DNR millions to fight invasive species

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today announced the award of 20 grant projects totaling more than $4 million, under the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program.  The grant program is central to Michigan’s new invasive species initiative, which brings a multi-department, comprehensive approach to the ongoing problem of harmful, non-native invaders such as the Asian carp. The initiative enlists the expertise of the state departments of Natural Resources, Environmental Quality and Agriculture and Rural Development. Hospital expansion in Marquette

LANSING, MI — The Michigan Strategic Fund on Tuesday approved incentives for a new hospital and hotel parking garage in Marquette expected to create 169 new jobs and retain 2,300. The existing hospital in Marquette was purchased by Duke LifePoint Healthcare in 2012, but the company wanted to expand service and needed a new facility. Duke LifePoint plans to purchase land currently owned by the city and develop a 516,000 square foot acute-care hospital, along with medical office buildings. CIU is Airport of the Year

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Office of Aeronautics has named Chippewa County International Airport as Michigan Airport of the Year. The annual awards recognize outstanding service to Michigan aviation. This is the 24th year that the MDOT Office of Aeronautics has presented the awards. In presenting the award to Chippewa County International and the CCEDC that manages the airport, MDOT Aeronautics Commission Director Michael Trout said that the people at Chippewa International have performed in an exemplary manner in the continuous improvement of their airport for many years. LSSU promotes practical nursing program

Lake Superior State University invites community members with an interest in the health care field to attend an informational session on its practical nursing program. The next LPN program begins this summer. The informational session will be held at 5 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the nursing laboratory, room 359 in Crawford Hall of Science. After an introduction to the program, participants will be able to tour the lab and enjoy refreshments. In addition, financial aid representatives will be on hand to answer questions. USDA Funding for Renewable Energy

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10, 2015 – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that rural agricultural producers and small business owners can now apply for resources to purchase and install renewable energy systems or make energy efficiency improvements.
