The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners during its Regular session on Thursday, April 13, 2023, appointed Mr. Gary McDowell as a Board of Director of the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation. Mr. McDowell will replace Dr. Kimberly Muller who elected to resign. McDowell’s appointment is effective immediately and will serve through March 31, 2028.
“We are very excited to welcome Mr. Gary McDowell”, stated EDC Chairman Don Mclean. “Gary brings a great deal of experience from his previous positions. With his background I believe he brings considerable depth to the EDC, and I look forward to working with him to improve the economy of Chippewa County and the EUP region. I am also very appreciative of Dr. Kimberly Muller for her past service on the EDC board.”
Born and raised in Rudyard, McDowell is a graduate of Rudyard High School and attended Lake Superior State University. As a State Director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) he focused on reinvigorating Michigan’s rural economies and was a partner in addressing the real issues that rural Michiganders face daily. McDowell served as the State Representative for the 107th District from 2005-2011, was a former Chippewa County Board of Commissioner for 22 years and served previously on the EDC Board of Directors from 1991 until 2004.
